Parent Questions

What should I do if I don't like something that happened at daycare?

Let the provider know immediately that you need to speak to them. Remember they cannot correct something if they are not aware of your concerns. Most times, there is a reasonable explanation for things and it can be worked out through communication.

What are some typical skills children learn in family child care?

    * Setting the table-cognitive skills: counts silverware, plates, napkins. Follows patterns for place settings.
Social skills- Cooperates with others at the table. Physical-picking up small objects, measuring/pouring drinks.

    * Sitting down to eat - Social/Language, patience, opportunity to try a variety of healthy foods.

    * Story time/Lap time - Security, sequencing, repetition, fine motor skills by turning pages, speech and listening skills.

    * Large Motor Skills - Climbing stairs, neighborhood walks, rolling and tumbling, pedaling, jumping and running.

    * Dramatic Play - Role playing, develops self-image, expresses self, imitates, self-help and imagination.

There are many ways to learn through our everyday home-life experiences. It has been my experience that providers use many opportunities throughout their day to teach children social skills, fine motor skills, cognitive skills, physical, self-help, emotional, and academic skills.
